Engineering Managers also play a role in the application of technological advancements by providing strategic advice and introducing innovative equipment or processes. They typically work within technology-based industries, manufacturing or engineering firms and public sector organisations where they liaise regularly with senior management, clients and other technical professionals.

- Planning, directing, and coordinating activity for engineering projects in various industries.
- Developing policies, standards or procedures for engineering and technical work.
- Presenting proposals, reports, or findings to clients, customers or project stakeholders.
- Reporting on the progress of a project at various stages and providing specialised advice.
- Keeping projects on track while providing tailored specifications.
- Reviewing, approving, or modifying product designs depending on the need outlined within a project.
